Hello, I am Malte, founder of the Germany's first wingfoil school and has been an active local on Fehmarn's waters since his early years.

2003 bin ich im Alter von 14 Jahren als Jüngster in die Kitesurf-Szene auf Fehmarn eingestiegen. Ich hatte Glück und Talent und wurde direkt von meinem Vater und meinem damaligen Arbeitgeber Bernd Hiss mit Material unterstützt. So erzielte ich schnelle Erfolge und erreichte mit 16 Jahren den deutschen Vize-Meistertitel im Kitesurfen. Wirklich gepackt hat mich das Kontestfahren jedoch nicht, sodass ich es nicht weiter verfolgte. Die letzten 15 Jahre sammelte ich viel Erfahrung im Schulungsbereich.

In 2003, at the age of 14, I was the youngest to enter the kitesurfing scene on Fehmarn. I was lucky and talented and was directly supported with equipment by my father and my employer at the time, Bernd Hiss. As a result, I quickly achieved success and was runner-up in the German kitesurfing championship at the age of 16. I didn't really get into contest riding, so I didn't pursue it any further. Over the last 10 years, I gained a lot of experience in the training sector.
Als ich 2019 das erste Mal Wingfoilen ausprobiert habe, hat mich das Feeling direkt umgehauen. Ab diesem Zeitpunkt war klar: Diese Leidenschaft möchte ich teilen und auch andere davon begeistern. 2020 war es dann soweit: Gemeinsam mit Kim eröffnete ich Wingfoil Fehmarn.

WHY WINGFOILING IS SO SPECIAL

Es gibt viele ganz besondere Eigenschaften, die nur das Wingfoilen mit sich bringt. Am Anfang stellen sich zwei Dinge klar heraus: Die Einfachheit den Wing zu kontrollieren und die Unabhängigkeit von einer zweiten Person zum Starten. Mit dem Wing kannst du nicht nur Foilen und richtig Gas geben, du kannst den Wing auch entspannt mit in den Urlaub nehmen, an den See, an die Ostsee – wo immer du gern mal eine Runde auf’s Wasser möchtest. Wingfoilen kannst du schon ab 8 Knoten Wind. Der Wing ist sehr schnell betriebsbereit. Aufpumpen und fertig. Sobald du auf dem Foil schwebst, setzt du nur noch wenig Kraft ein um den Wing zu halten. Durch das Foil werden die Arme in der Gleitfahrt entlastet, wodurch kein Trapez mehr verwendet werden muss. Das Fahrgefühl ist dadurch sehr spielerisch. Das Foil macht Wingen überhaupt technisch erst möglich, da es im Wasser viel weniger Reibung erzeugt als eine Fläche, die auf der Wasseroberfläche gleitet.

Suddenly everything becomes very quiet and the driving experience: simply goosebumps and totally awesome! There are many Special properties, that only wingfoiling brings with it. Two things become clear at the beginning: the simplicity of controlling the wing and the independence from a second person for launching. With the Wing you can not only foil and really accelerate, you can also take the small sail with you on holiday. You can casually go for a spin and take advantage of the light breeze or really go for it. Wingfoiling is possible from as little as 8 knots of wind. The Wing is quickly ready for use. Inflate and you're done.
You simply stand on the board and wait until you catch a gust, take off and ride away. As soon as you are floating on the foil, you only need to invest a little strength to hold the wing in your hand. The foil takes the strain off the arms when gliding, which means that a harness is no longer necessary. The riding experience is therefore very playful. The foil makes wings technically possible in the first place, as it generates much less friction in the water than a surface that glides on the surface of the water.
